MULTATECH designed new Diesel Fuel storage tanks for the Eastbound and Westbound locomotive fueling platforms for the BNSF in Belen, New Mexico. The facility fuels 80 - 100 trains and dispenses over 600,000 gallons of fuel per day. The project required detailed phasing and demolition plans in order to maintain locomotive fueling service 24 hours per day throughout construction.

Design of the new day tanks included two sets of dual 150,000-gallon fuel tanks (300,000 gallons at each fueling platform in hydraulically equalized 150,000-gallon tanks), concrete secondary containment structures, industrial wastewater piping, fuel piping, fuel valves and control systems, redundant level control systems for the tanks, and electrical power for lighting and controls.

MULTATECH provided full-time, on-site construction inspection and contract administration resulting in a project that complied with all plans, specifications and BNSF standards. This project had less than 1% change orders and was recognized as a highly successful project and a user-friendly facility.
