MULTATECH has performed annual pavement inventory and repairs at the BNSF Alliance Intermodal Facility (IMF) since 2006.  We were awarded the design and construction management for the expansion of the Alliance IMF, a project to extend the existing north and south switching lead tracks to 8,600 feet, to allow 8,000 foot trains to be switched within the facility without tying up the mainline track.

The project increased storage capacity within the IMF by adding two 6,000 foot storage tracks and extending three existing storage tracks by approximately 3,000 feet. Our design included:  1,400 feet of soldier pile retaining wall (with heights up to nine feet); a non-standard, 600 foot, 10-span bridge on drilled pier foundations; a 231 feet standard concrete bridge; an at-grade railroad crossing (BNSF at Avondale Haslet Road); and multiple culvert extensions.  Electrical design included relocating an existing high mast lighting pole. MULTATECH also provided services for topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, track alignment, grading and all associated permitting.

The General Contractor, AUI Contractors, and MULTATECH received national recognition and an award for Excellence in Construction from the BNSF in June 2008 for the expansion project.
